A long time ago I saw this artist being interviewed on the BBC, was doing other things at the time (interview just being sound wallpaper - just so I wouldn't feel alone). But he did say one thing that I haven't forgotten: You cannot create great art without PASSION.
And I do agree with him.
What are we without our passions? What is my writing, storytelling, silly scribblings, postings, arts, crafts and collages without my passions?
That's why I feel uneasy when I find myself not passionate about anything.
Hence this strange constant need to see, feel, hear, touch and smell things that ignite my passions--be it a person, a great song, a book, a great film.
And while the works of Tim Burton, Neil Gaiman, Isabel Allende, Robert Rodriguez, the Rolling Stones, Peter Jackson, Johnny Depp, or a story like Whale Rider are inspiring, there is still something more powerful in the passion one has for people -- a best friend, a child, a parent, a teacher, a grandparent, a lover, a distant soul, a confidant, a cousin, a favorite musician.
Without people like that in our lives, we are like wet matches (I sort of borrowed that from Laura Esquivel).
